Regulations to Be Formulated for Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar's Appointment and Duties latest news: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has announced important measures to deal with prevailing issues in the Sikh community. He stressed that respect for Singh Sahibans and all Sikh institutions be upheld while ensuring decisions for Jathedars' roles in the future are taken after taking advice from Sikh sects.
On the occasion of a media interaction in the office of SGPC, Advocate Dhami exposed the fact that the norms will soon be established about the qualification, appointment, job, and retirement of Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
A top-level committee would be formed in this regard and would be submitted to the Vidhan Sabha session to be finalized for approval during the next budget session. A system of "one person, one post" will also be put in practice in these honourable positions.
Advocate Dhami guaranteed that the Jathedar's vacant post of Sri Akal Takht Sahib will be filled soon after taking suggestions from Sikh sects and organizations. He also stressed the need to maintain Sikh customs, traditions, and history as guiding principles in order to collectively and effectively counter challenges.
He was also concerned about extraneous forces working to undermine Sikh institutions and the unity of Sikh people, reminding the community of the need for unity to push back against this. Advocate Dhami further explained that Jathedars presently serving at the Takht Sahibs will be retired with respect, and honor will be paid to those past servants who rendered their services.
Grateful for the challenges of his position as SGPC President, Advocate Dhami thanked religious, social, and political organizations, as well as esteemed Singh Sahibans, for their trust and support and promised to continue with the faith instilled in him by different Sikh organizations and sects.
