“In short, he has been absent from many crucial debates and legislative discussions,” he added.
Opposition's resolution seeking the removal of Om Birla as Speaker was rejected in the Lok Sabha by voice vote this evening, after Home Minister Amit Shah slammed the Opposition, including LoP Rahul Gandhi, for questioning Om Birla’s integrity.
Shah also highlighted that there were mistakes in the motion, including the wrong year being mentioned, and said that despite these mistakes, the Speaker gave the Opposition an opportunity to correct them.
He also pointed out Rahul Gandhi’s absence from the House over the years, including during discussions on topics of national importance such as “the Land Acquisition Act, the 122nd Constitutional Amendment, the Aadhaar Act, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, the abrogation of Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act, the Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, and three landmark programmes for the Indian judiciary.”
Shah further stated that LoP Gandhi did not participate in discussions on the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, the Finance Bill,... or the 150th-anniversary discussion on ‘Vande Mataram.’
“In short, he has been absent from many crucial debates and legislative discussions,” he added.
