The mortal remains of martyred soldier Naik Subedar Pargat Singh reached his native village Ramdas in Sri Amritsar Sahib district of Punjab on Monday.

The martyr’s body was flown in from Jammu and Kashmir and arrived at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport. From the airport, the mortal remains were taken to his village in an Army vehicle.

Villagers, along with the Punjab government’s Chief Spokesperson, Aam Aadmi Party Punjab leader, and Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, reached the village to pay homage to the fallen soldier.

According to a report by The Tribune, the soldier died of a heart attack caused by low oxygen levels in the Anantnag district of the Kashmir Valley.

The father of the martyred soldier appealed to both the state and central governments to support the bereaved family. The 31-year-old soldier is survived by his wife and two children.

He also requested that one member of the family be provided a government job to help raise the children.

The entire village is mourning the loss of the young soldier. His last rites will be held on Tuesday with full military honours.

The Tribune report further stated that the soldier had spoken to his family shortly before his death, saying he was experiencing difficulty in breathing and was unable to speak. He was posted with the 19th Rashtriya Rifles and had joined the Indian Army in 2015.
