Chandigarh, February 4: Punjab Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria has said that compensation regarding crop damage due to occurrences of hailstorm in some parts of state during last some days would be disbursed soon.In a press statement issued here, Revenue Minister said that crops of some farmers had got damaged in the ongoing spell of inclement weather due to hailstorm.

The Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had immediately issued orders to all Deputy Commissioners to conduct fresh Girdawri’, Sarkaria added. He further said that reports regarding crop damage were being received and all compensation to farmers would be released immediately on receipt of full report.

 He reiterated that Punjab Government was working with full seriousness to ensure welfare of farmers adding that during May 2018 on directives of the Chief Minister department had fully compensated muskmelon growers of 5254 acres when their crops were hit by storm. Sarkaria also said that maize growers had also been adversely affected and were also compensated fully.

Reiterating state government’s commitment to make agriculture viable for farmers again, Sarkaria said Captain Government was working on various pro farmer measures for debt alleviation. More than 5.63 lakh farmers at cost of Rs. 4513 Crores had been provided relief by state government in three rounds of debt waiver scheme, he added. Compensation amount was being raised to Rs. 12,000 from existing 8,000 per acre, Sarkaria added.
