On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that his government has created over 61,000 government jobs in four years. He underlined a firm commitment to merit-based, transparent, and fair recruitment processes. Mann addressed a function in Chandigarh where he distributed appointment letters to 606 new recruits from the education department, including 385 special education teachers, 157 primary teachers, eight principals, and 56 compassionate-ground appointments.

The Chief Minister said that since assuming office in April 2022, the Punjab government’s wide-ranging recruitment drive has so far resulted in 61,281 government jobs being provided to youth across the state. He stressed that every appointment has been made purely on merit and with full transparency, and that not a single one has been challenged in court, highlighting a break from previous practices.

Mann contrasted the current recruitment system with earlier dispensations, asserting that past governments often favoured relatives and acquaintances, whereas the present administration ensures deserving candidates get opportunities on the basis of capability alone. He noted that the earlier era when job seekers anxiously awaited appointment letters “was over”, according to his remarks at the event.

He announced structural reforms such as creating a separate cadre of special education teachers for children with special needs. He also highlighted initiatives to train school principals and teachers at international institutions and expand “Schools of Eminence” in the state, as per government sources.
