‘SHANTI Bill’ Controversy: The Congress party on Wednesday strongly opposed the SHANTI Bill, saying that through the Bill, the Modi government allegedly seeks to sell what the Indian National Congress built over the past decades. 

“The Congress Party’s policy on nuclear energy is built on the principle that nuclear energy is too dangerous to be driven by the profit motive. It is critical to India’s national and energy security,” the Congress party said in a post on its X. 

It continued, “The Modi government, through the SHANTI Bill, inverts that logic and seeks to sell what the Indian National Congress built. Through the SHANTI Bill, the BJP government is playing with India’s national and energy security.”

It slammed the BJP-led NDA government, saying, “This government is handing over the fruits of 70 years of publicly funded research and nuclear development—built by successive Congress governments under global sanctions—to private entities. The temples of modern India are being sold to the traders of “New India.”

“You are allowing 49% FDI in atomic energy production,” Congress’s post read, adding, “This primarily benefits U.S. companies.”

Taking a swipe, Congress said, “Is this meant as a sweetener ahead of a U.S.–India deal, or is it an attempt to seek validation from President Trump, who imposed a 50% tariff on India and supported Pakistan after Operation Sindoor?”

Congress’s MP R.Sudha, earlier today, opposed the bill in parliament, expressing concerns including over the possibility of nuclear accidents.
