Sugar prices of both varieties surged at the Vashi wholesale market today following sustained demand from stockists and bulk consumers. Small sugar (S-30) climbed by Rs 30/25 per quintal to Rs 3,200/3,300 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 3,170/3,275. Medium sugar (M-30) also rose by Rs 20/10 per quintal to Rs 3,260/3,422 as against Rs 3,240/3,412 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets: Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,200/3,300 (Rs 3,170/3,275). Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,260/3,422 (Rs 3,240/3,412).
