Sharing the update on social media platform X, Shah described the milestone as the highest-ever audience reach in the history of the T20 World Cup. He noted that the tournament, currently being held in India, was envisioned as a global and accessible cricketing spectacle, and the response from fans has exceeded expectations.
According to Shah, digital streaming platform Jio Hotstar alone recorded 65 million viewers during the tournament, underlining the growing popularity of online sports consumption in India.
With the knockout stage beginning tonight, including the two semi-finals and the final, the tournament has already surpassed the viewership numbers recorded during the 2024 edition held in the United States. Shah expressed confidence that continued support from Indian fans could help the event set even more benchmarks.
The ICC had set ambitious audience targets ahead of the competition, and the latest figures indicate that those goals have been achieved well before the tournament’s conclusion.
