Canada Crime News: In a major development, the Edmonton police in Canada have arrested 6 Punjabi youths in connection with extortion targeting the South Asian community. The police also issued an arrest warrant against 34-year-old Maninder Singh Dhaliwal, who is said to be the leader of the extortion criminal organization.

Edmonton police on Friday revealed major information about Project Gaslight in which an investigation was being held into incidents targeting business owners in Edmonton, allegedly at the direction of Punjab by a group of local suspects. So far, 40 incidents have been identified in this connection, including an arson attack on an apartment in Cavanagh in southwest Edmonton on Friday morning.

Police Chief Dale McPhee said that extortion not only affects one person or people, but it creates an atmosphere of fear in the entire community. Now, the time has come to stop these incidents. The police will take strict action against such incidents, he said. 

Police and RCMP conducted a search operation at six places in southeast Edmonton in which 6 people were arrested. Also, Canada-wide arrest warrants have been issued against Maninder Singh Dhaliwal, who is believed to be responsible for operating this scheme.

According to information, a total of 54 charges have been registered against Dhaliwal and six others. These include charges such as extortion, arson, intentionally setting fire, vandalism, entering a private place, assault with a weapon and committing a crime for a criminal organization.
