In a historic milestone for minority representation, Harcharan Singh has become the first Sikh officer in the Pakistan Army to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Born in 1987 in Nankana Sahib, the revered birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Singh’s elevation follows a rigorous selection process concluded in late 2025.

His journey began in 2007 when he joined the force at age 20. Originally commissioned into the Ordnance Corps, Singh later demonstrated his commitment by volunteering for a combat role. He was subsequently moved to the 12th Battalion of the Baloch Regiment, where he served in high-pressure operational environments and sensitive border regions as a Major.

Ramesh Singh Arora, Punjab’s Minister for Minorities Affairs, confirmed the promotion, noting that while other minorities have served, this level of qualification is a first for the Sikh and Hindu communities. Arora hailed the achievement as proof that talent is the sole parameter for success in the military, reflecting a spirit of national unity.
