NSA Ajit Doval Finalizes India-Canada Security Roadmap to Tackle Transnational Crime

In a significant step toward bolstering bilateral security, India and Canada have agreed to station law-enforcement liaison officers in each other’s countries. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this move aims to facilitate the timely exchange of information regarding the illegal flow of drugs, specifically fentanyl precursors, and the operations of transnational organised criminal networks.

The decision was finalised following a meeting on February 7 between India's National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Nathalie Drouin, Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Adviser to the Prime Minister. As part of a regular bilateral security dialogue, NSA Doval also held discussions with Gary Anandasangaree, Canada’s Minister for Public Safety.

The MEA stated that both nations have agreed to draft a shared work plan to guide cooperation on national security and law enforcement. This framework is expected to streamline communication and enable practical collaboration on shared priorities. Both sides committed to building upon existing working relationships between their respective agencies to tackle mutual concerns.

Furthermore, the two countries pledged to formalise cooperation on cybersecurity policy and information-sharing. Discussions are also set to continue regarding collaboration on fraud prevention and immigration enforcement, ensuring alignment with domestic laws and international obligations. Both sides reviewed progress on existing initiatives dedicated to the safety and security of their citizens, the ministry added.
