Israel Declares Ceasefire After Achieving Objectives of ‘Operation Rising Lion’; Iran Denies Agreement
Israel Declares Ceasefire latest news: The Israeli Government issued a statement on Monday around 1 PM (IST), stating, “In light of having achieved the objectives of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agrees to the President's proposal for a bilateral ceasefire.”
The statement, posted on the official X account of Israel, comes just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total CEASEFIRE” between the two conflicted Middle Eastern nations.
According to the statement, the agreement to a ceasefire comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the Security Cabinet last night, along with the Defense Minister, the IDF Chief of Staff, and the Director of Mossad, to report that Israel had achieved all the objectives of Operation Rising Lion, and more.
“Israel has removed from over it a double existential threat – both the nuclear issue and the threat of ballistic missiles,” the statement said.
It added that the IDF had “achieved complete air superiority in the skies over Tehran, struck a severe blow to the military leadership, and destroyed dozens of Iran's main regime targets.”
“In the past several days, the IDF has also severely struck regime targets in the heart of Tehran, eliminated hundreds of militants from the Basij—the terrorist regime's instrument of repression—and neutralized another senior nuclear scientist,” it continued.
The statement came amid fresh alerts issued by the Israeli Defense Forces warning citizens of incoming missiles from Iran. “Sirens sounding in northern Israel due to missile fire from Iran,” the IDF posted on X.
At around 3 AM local time in Israel, President Trump had announced, “A complete and total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the war will be considered ENDED! Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th hour, an official END to the 12-DAY WAR.”
However, following the announcement, several alerts were still issued by the Israeli defense warning of incoming missiles.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated on X about 7 hours ago, “As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”
Returning to the statement by the Israeli government, it thanked “President Trump and the U.S. for their defensive support and for their participation in removing the Iranian nuclear threat.”
It also warned, “Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire.”
“In Operation Rising Lion, the State of Israel made great historic achievements and placed itself in the first rank of the world's major powers. This is a great success for the people of Israel and its fighters, who removed two existential threats to our country and ensured the eternity of Israel,” the statement concluded.
The Israeli Prime Minister is expected to issue an additional statement later today.
