A new report by Aston University and multicultural agency Here & Now 365 has positioned the Indian community as the most economically successful migrant group in the United Kingdom. Launched at the House of Lords, the report highlights the defining role played by successive generations of Indians in shaping Britain's economic strength, public services, and global standing over the last seven decades.

The research traces the community's impact through four distinct waves of migration since 1947. From filling critical labour shortages in manufacturing and transport after World War II to the entrepreneurial revival of local economies in the 1970s, the diaspora has shown remarkable resilience. The transition to a knowledge-driven economy saw a third wave of highly skilled professionals in finance, medicine, and engineering.

Currently, the fourth wave is addressing post-Brexit skills shortages, with Indian-born professionals now accounting for approximately 15 per cent of the UK’s technology workforce.
