Met Dept Forecasts Prolonged Fog Till December 31, Temperature Dips to 3 Degrees Celsius

Chandigarh Weather Update Latest News: As the countdown to the new year begins, Chandigarh finds itself shrouded in dense fog, creating an atmospheric start to 2024. The Meteorological Department issues an alert, predicting persistent foggy conditions until December 31, attributed to the influence of the Western Disturbance.

The current weather scenario in Chandigarh reflects a drop in temperature to 3 degrees Celsius, intensifying the cold wave. With the maximum temperature recorded at 19.5 degrees, nearly 4 degrees below normal, and the minimum at 8 degrees Celsius, 1 degree below normal, residents are advised to brace for chilly conditions.

The Meteorological Department anticipates cloudy conditions in Chandigarh for the next two days, extending till Sunday, due to the Western Disturbance. The temperature may hover around 6 degrees Celsius, with intermittent light sunshine during the day.

The thick fog is not only impacting visibility but also causing delays in transportation. Trains in and out of Chandigarh are experiencing delays, with the Kalka New Delhi Shatabdi Express arriving 25 minutes late and the Howrah Kalka mail running behind by 9 hours and 25 minutes. Additionally, the Lucknow to Chandigarh Sadbhavana Express faced a delay of an hour and 50 minutes.

Flight Disruptions

Reduced visibility at the airport has led to the cancellation of 6 flights from Chandigarh to Delhi. Flights destined for Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad from Chandigarh were also grounded. The adverse weather conditions persisted until 10 am, disrupting both incoming and outgoing flights. Residents are urged to exercise caution during the foggy conditions, especially while traveling.
