The Punjab Government officially launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY) today, a flagship health initiative aimed at providing a substantial safety net to the state's population.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has assured a health cover of Rs 10 lakh per family per annum under this new plan.

The Chief Minister said the scheme is designed to provide "cashless treatment from Day 1 after registration" for all eligible beneficiaries.

However, the implementation faces an immediate challenge as top multi-speciality hospital chains, including Fortis and Max, are currently not part of the empanelled list.

Health Department officials confirmed that while these major chains were involved in advanced discussions with the government until recently, they have not joined the scheme at the time of launch. Officials added, "They may be part of the scheme in the future."

The scheme is set to impact a massive portion of the state, with as many as 65 lakh households eligible for coverage.

While the Chief Minister emphasised immediate access to treatment upon registration, the Health Department noted that physical health cards may take one to two weeks for delivery.

The government officials have advised citizens that more information can be obtained from nearby government hospitals.
