SC Rejected Sukhbir Badal's Anticipatory Bail Plea
FARIDKOT: The Supreme Court heard the anticipatory bail petition of Shiromani Akali Dal Patron and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Kotkapura firing case. Meanwhile, the court has granted anticipatory bail to the former CM while the anticipatory bail application of Sukhbir Singh Badal was rejected. With this, the sword of 'arrest' has hanged on Sukhbir Singh Badal's head. However, he is likely to move High Court to avoid arrest.
The decision has been pronounced by the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajiv Kalra of Faridkot. The anticipatory bail application of the then SSP Faridkot Sukhminder Singh Mann has also been rejected. It is worth mentioning here that after the hearing on the charge sheet presented in the court of Faridkot in the Kotkapura firing case, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini including 5 police officers were summoned on March 23.
In the Kotkapura firing case, the SIT had filed a 7,000-page charge sheet in the Faridkot court on February 24, 2022. A charge sheet was registered in the Faridkot court on February 24 by a team led by ADGP LK Yadav and SSP Bathinda Gulneet Singh Khurana. It includes the names of Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, then IG Paramraj Umranangal, SSP Moga Charanjit Sharma, SSP Faridkot Sukhminder Mann, DIG Ferozepur Amar Singh Chahal and then SHO City Kotkapura Gurdeep Singh.
According to the chargesheet, then DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal have been named as the main conspirators of the Kotkapura firing incident. While former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is accused of carrying out the conspiracy. The then IG Umranangal, DIG Ferozepur Amar Singh Chahal and SSP Moga Charanjit Singh Sharma are accused of masterminding the conspiracy.
