IMD Chandigarh Issues Heavy Rainfall Warning for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from 4th to 6th August

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has issued a warning for heavy rainfall over Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana from 4th to 6th August in a press release on Monday.

The IMD has forecasted rainfall activity over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh with heavy rain at isolated places from 4th to 6th August. Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations over Northern, Eastern, and Southern parts of Haryana on 5th August.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places in the next 24 hours. The rainfall activity is expected to increase over Northern and Eastern parts of Punjab, Northern, Eastern, and Southern Haryana, and Chandigarh from 5th to 6th August 2025.

Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on 5th August. Very heavy rainfall (12 cm or more) is likely between 4th and 6th August at isolated places in Northern and Eastern parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Furthermore, very heavy rain (12 cm or more) is also expected at isolated locations on 6th August over areas in Punjab, Haryana, including Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat, Palwal, and adjoining districts.

Yellow alert:

In the latest update, IMD Chandigarh has placed three districts in Punjab under a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and other weather conditions. The three districts are Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar.

The same three districts, along with SAS Nagar, have been placed under a yellow alert for tomorrow, 5th August, for the same weather conditions.

Nowcast:
IMD Chandigarh, in its Nowcast valid until 9 PM tonight, has placed six districts under a yellow alert, warning of light rain with rainfall rates of up to 5mm per hour.

The districts under the yellow are Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jhalandar, Ludhiana, and Patiala.
