Ghose alleged that the EC is misusing its powers to damage the elected government.
A major administrative reshuffle has been ordered in poll-bound West Bengal by the Election Commission of India earlier today.
According to a report by PTI, the Election Commission has named Siddh Nath Gupta as Director General of Police (DGP), replacing Peeyush Pandey. It has also appointed Ajay Kumar Nand as the Kolkata Police Commissioner, replacing Supratim Sarkar.
Additionally, Dushyant Nariala has been posted as Chief Secretary of the state government in place of Nandini Chakraborty. Sanghamitra Ghosh has been posted as Principal Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs. All the reshuffles have been ordered with immediate effect.
Sujeet Kumar Mishra, Secretary of the Election Commission, stated that the directions of the Commission are to be implemented with immediate effect and a compliance report regarding the joining of the above officers is to be sent by 3 PM today.
TMC MP Sagarika Ghose strongly criticized the transfer of the Bengal Home Secretary and Chief Secretary, calling it “unacceptable”.
Speaking to PTI, Ghose said, “The manner in which the Election Commission transferred the Bengal Home Secretary and Chief Secretary at 4 am in the dead of night is unacceptable.”

“The Election Commission has these powers at the moment, but it is misusing them to damage the elected government in Bengal. We have raised this matter in the House. Our leader Derek O’Brien also raised the issue, and in protest the All India Trinamool Congress has walked out of Parliament for the entire day,” she added.
TMC MP Saugata Roy called the reshuffle a “wrong step”, adding that it “goes against West Bengal.”
The development comes a day after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the election dates for four states, including West Bengal and one Union Territory heading for Assembly elections in April.
The order also comes at a time when the Model Code of Conduct is in place in the poll-bound states and the Union Territory.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry are set to go to the polls this April.
