“I am a proud dad” says father of Major Swathi Kumar after winning UN Secretary-General's Award 2025

Major Swathi Shantha Kumar is currently posted in South Sudan.

Major Swathi Shantha Kumar, an Indian Army officer from Bengaluru currently on a United Nations mission in South Sudan, has been recognized by the UN Secretary General and has won the prestigious UN Secretary-General’s Award 2025, according to news agency ANI. 

She won the award for her project “Equal Partners, Lasting Peace” in the Gender category.

Her father, Shantha Kumar, speaking to ANI, said he is a proud dad today. 

“We don't have a military background, but she applied for competitive exams and qualified to join Indian Army. She underwent rigorous training,” the father added. 

Major Swathi Shantha Kumar is currently posted in South Sudan.

According to an NDTV report, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the winners of the Secretary-General's Awards–2025.
