New Delhi: The New Education Policy will sow the seeds for starting a new era and give a new direction to the 21st-century India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a conclave on school education on Friday.

“Our work has just begun. The National Education Policy has to be implemented equally effectively,” he said.

MyGov portal received more than 15 lakh suggestions from teachers on NEP implementation within a week of seeking their views, he added.

“The NEP focuses a lot on children, stresses on learning based on fun, discovery and activities. Engage, explore, experience, express and excel should be our mantra of new-age learning for children,” the Prime Minister said.

A national curriculum framework will be developed and students should have a new curriculum in 2022 when nation marks 75th year of Independence, he said, adding that so far, marks and marksheet had dominated learning-based education in our country.

Narendra ModiThe Prime Minister said: “Marksheet became ‘pressure sheet’ for students and ‘prestige sheet’ for families. Hence, the goal of the NEP is to remove this pressure.”

He also urged teachers to emphasise the need to follow coronavirus guidelines such as covering one’s face, follow all social-distancing norms and maintain cleanliness.

Narendra Modi also laid emphasis on how there was no bar on learning or teaching any language in the NEP, be it English or any international language and asserted that Indian languages would be promoted as well.
