Widespread shortages of commercial LPG cylinders were reported today, significantly affecting the restaurant and hospitality sector in several states, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Chennai, with reports of shortages also emerging from the national capital, Delhi.

Several MPs, including IS Inbadurai, Rajya Sabha MP of AIADMK from Tamil Nadu, has written a letter to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, seeking urgent intervention to ensure the uninterrupted supply of commercial and domestic LPG.

President of the All India LPG Distributors Federation, Chandra Prakash, told ANI that the supply to commercial establishments has been temporarily halted.

Chandra Prakash said, “The govt, oil companies, and the distributors are focused on the supply of domestic cylinders. After which, essential commercial services like hospitals will be prioritised. The supply to commercial establishments like restaurants has been temporarily halted."

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra earlier today, interacting with media outside Parliament on the issue of LPG cylinder shortage, said, “The crisis is deepening and it will deepen.”

She also took a jibe at the Centre, saying, “The manner in which our government has bent before the US in the trade deal, the crisis will deepen. A war is also going on. So, this will deepen."

Meanwhile, Congress workers in Bengaluru staged a protest over the LPG supply issue. The protesters brought traditional chulha systems used for cooking meals as part of the protest.
