India-UK-Canada Energy Experts Convene at Panjab University for Asia's First Regional Energy Modelling Platform
Panjab University (PU) has commenced Asia’s inaugural Regional Energy Modelling Platform workshop, aimed at enhancing capacity for integrated climate and energy planning. The two-week event, running from February 9 to 20, is organised by PU’s Department of Environment Studies in partnership with the UK’s Climate Compatible Growth Network.
The programme brings together experts from India, the United Kingdom, and Canada to explore tools like climate, land, energy, and water systems, which are essential for evidence-based decision-making in India.
The workshop features a diverse group of participants, including academics, early-career professionals, researchers, and NGO representatives from several states. Key dignitaries at the inaugural session included British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio and PU Registrar Prof. Yajvender Pal Verma. The presence of senior advisors and coordinators from the British Deputy High Commission and the CCG network underscored the international significance of the initiative.
The first week of the workshop focuses on building a conceptual understanding of various modelling tools through modules previously studied via the Open University.
In the second week, the cohort will apply these skills to develop specific country or sector case studies. These will culminate in policy-orientated analyses derived from modelling outputs.
By integrating diverse perspectives, the workshop aims to foster a more inclusive and technically robust approach to regional climate challenges, aligning scientific research with practical policy outcomes.
