BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, has written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri requesting that continuity of LPG supply to the restaurant and hospitality sector be ensured.
The letter, dated 9 March 2026, reads, “I am in receipt of representation from the Bangalore Hotels Association (Regd.) regarding concerns related to the continuity of commercial LPG supply to restaurants, hotels and other establishments in the hospitality sector.”
The MP noted that the restaurant and food service industry relies significantly on commercial LPG for daily kitchen operations, adding that most commercial kitchens currently do not have immediate alternatives such as PNG connectivity or electric cooking systems at scale.
He further noted that any disruption in LPG supply could directly impact restaurant operations, employment in the sector, and services provided to consumers.
“While the industry supports the Government's efforts to ensure adequate LPG supply for domestic households, the Association has requested assurance that commercial establishments continue to receive uninterrupted LPG supply through the existing distribution system,” the letter read.
He requested the minister to look into the matter and do the needful, as per applicable norms.
MP Tejasvi Surya, earlier today speaking to the media outside Parliament, said, “There are some challenges, but like the EAM assured the house yesterday and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister has been repeatedly assuring, the energy security of the country is the foremost priority for the govt.”

“I would like to assure the people of Karnataka, especially the hoteliers, that the priority right now will be to address domestic consumption of people as well as take care of CNG and LNG needs of the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Government of India has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 to regulate the availability, supply, and equitable distribution of petroleum and petroleum products and natural gas, according to news agency ANI.
In an order dated 9 March, the central government has directed that the supply of natural gas to ‘domestic piped Natural Gas Supply, compressed Natural Gas for transport, LPG production including LPG shrinkage requirements and pipeline compressor fuel and other essential pipeline operational requirements’ be treated as priority allocation.
It will be subject to the operational availability of 100 percent of their average gas consumption over the past six months, as per the order.
