BDP Unveils First Tamil Song Honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th Anniversary

The Bahujan Dravida Party (BDP) has released what it described as the first Tamil song dedicated to Sikh history in a notable cross-cultural tribute. The title of the song is “Srishti-Ki-Sadar – Guru Tegh Bahadur”, and it was unveiled on December 27 at the Margazhiyil Makkal Isai festival in Chennai. This marks the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru.

BDP founder Jeevan Singh has written the song, portraying Guru Tegh Bahadur ji as a “protector of all humanity” who stood against religious oppression and challenged entrenched hierarchical social orders.

Filmmaker Pa Ranjith formally launched the song. The music video integrates AI-generated visuals with real footage from the School of Miri Piri Tamil Nadu. It showcased the Sikh tradition of egalitarian langar and featured both Tamil and Punjabi Sikh communities.

BDP officials said that the cultural initiative reflects deepening ties between Dravidian and Sikh social movements. It points to the party’s earlier nomination of seven Tamil Sikh candidates in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, many of whom were involved in the 2021 farmers’ protests at the Singhu border and later embraced Sikhism.

The launch event was attended by Sikh community representatives, including Surjit Singh, director of United Sikhism Tamil Nadu, signalling a shared emphasis on social equality.
