Who is Krishna Das, whose Kirtan was attended by Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, and what is his real name?

Krishna Das whose real name is Jeffrey Kagel was born on May 31, 1947. He is an American vocalist who is prominently known for his performances of Hindu devotional music known as kirtan. He has released over 17 albums since 1996. He even performed at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where his album Live Ananda (2012) was nominated for the Grammy Award in the category of Best New Age Album.

Besides, Krishna Das has been described by the New York Times as "the chant master of American yoga". Talking about his early life, he was a part of the small group of high school and college students who formed a rock band in June 1967, Soft White Underbelly, that later became Blue Öyster Cult. Initially, Jeff Kagel, then a student at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, was the group's lead singer. However, he quit even before the band had a name. 

In August 1970, he visited India, where he became a devotee of the Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji) where he started to use the name Krishna Das which was eventually given to him by the guru.

In April 2014, his album 'Kirtan Wallah' was released under his own label 'Krishna Das Music'.
