Tsunami Warning Issued After Powerful Earthquakes Strike Off Russia’s Pacific Coast
Tsunami Warning in Russia after earthquakes: A tsunami warning has been issued for parts of Russia and Hawaii after a series of strong earthquakes struck off Russia’s eastern coast, Al Jazeera reported, citing data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and News agencies.
According to the USGS, three major quakes—one of them registering a powerful magnitude of 7.4—were recorded within just 32 minutes off the coast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city in Russia's Kamchatka Region. Two other quakes were measured at magnitude 6.7, while a smaller 5.0 tremor occurred shortly before the series of stronger quakes began.
The larger quake was at a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles) and was 144 kilometers (89 miles) east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which has a population of 180,000, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, AP report said.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) initially recorded one of the quakes at magnitude 6.7 but later upgraded it to 7.4. Following the main shocks, at least three aftershocks were reported, including one measured at 6.6.
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, home to more than 163,000 residents, lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for frequent and intense seismic activity. It is situated northeast of Japan and west of the U.S. state of Alaska.
As of now, no major damage or casualties have been reported, but authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
