China Responds to Trump’s Warning Latest News: Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's warning of an additional 10% tariff on nations supporting the "anti-America" policies of BRICS countries, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, on Monday said that BRICS is not targeted at any particular country, and emphasized that China opposes the use of tariffs as a tool of coercion.
“Calling BRICS a positive force in the international community,” Mao Ning said, “Its cooperation is open and inclusive, and not targeted at any particular country.”
She further stated that BRICS opposes using tariffs as a means of coercion and pressure.
“As for tariffs, we have consistently opposed tariff wars and trade wars. We are against using tariffs as a tool for coercion and pressure. Arbitrarily imposing tariffs does not serve the interests of any party,” Mao Ning added.
The remarks came in response to President Trump’s statement on Monday, where he issued a stern warning.
President Trump warned, “Any country aligning themselves with the anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff.”
“There will be no exceptions to this policy,” he added.
The warning came after India signed the BRICS declaration, which condemned unilateral tariff measures of U.S. trade policy, although the declaration did not name the U.S. directly.
