The BAS initiative was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

CHANDIGARH: In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability, the Punjab government has reintroduced the Biometric Attendance System (BAS) in government schools across the state. The recent directive mandates the use of BAS to record the attendance of all staff members, including weekends and holidays.

Under the newly issued orders, government school staff members will now be required to mark their attendance through the Biometric Attendance System. This requirement extends even to employees visiting schools on Sundays or holidays, ensuring a comprehensive record of their presence. The BAS initiative, previously launched in 2020 during the Congress government's tenure, was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For employees engaged in off-site government duties, the new guidelines offer flexibility. If an employee is unable to return in time to register their attendance on-site, they can utilize the Biometric Attendance System at the department they are visiting. In cases where the BAS machine is not available at the location, the attendance record can be marked through the alternative system previously approved by the department head.
