Flood Alert in Punjab As Heavy Rain Continues in Several Areas, Schools Shut in Several Districts

Schools in several flood-affected villages of Fazilka district will remain closed until further notice.

Punjab Flood News Weather Forecast Latest Update Schools Closed Today: Due to continuous rainfall in several districts of Punjab, since two days and due to continuous downpour in neighbouring mountain states, Punjab’s rivers and dams are witnessing the impact and fear of flooding in low-lying areas, looms.

In response to the developing situation, schools remain closed in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, and Gurdaspur. Schools in Amritsar’s Ajnala and Raiya blocks have also been ordered to remain closed.

Schools in several flood-affected villages of Fazilka district will remain closed until further notice.

Ravi and Beas rivers are swollen and are flowing in full speed. Ranjit Sagar Dam has released the excess water, affecting the lives of those in Pathankot and Gurdaspur.

The impact of water release from the Bhakra Dam is being witnessed in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka as fields and homes near the river are experiencing waterlogging, affecting the daily life of those affected.

According to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department for Punjab on August 26, parts of Lehra, Sunam, Sangrur, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak Patran, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, and Amloh are expected to see Thunderstorm, Lightning with Heavy Rain.

Similarly, thunderstorm Lightning with Moderate rain is very likely over parts of Budhlada, Lehra, Mansa, Sunam, Sangrur, Barnala, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Khamanon, Ludhiana East, Samrala, Raikot, and Ludhiana West.
