Restoring Punjab’s Sporting Glory: CM Launches PCL to Groom Future International Stars
In a significant move to reclaim the state’s sporting legacy and divert youth from drug addiction, the Punjab Government has approved the launch of the Punjab Cricket League (PCL). Chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a high-level review meeting finalised the initiative, which aims to position sports as a strategic intervention for youth empowerment.
According to Chief Minister Mann, the PCL will be organised on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL), featuring teams representing districts and the geographical regions of Majha, Doaba, and Malwa. To ensure professional standards, the state government will collaborate with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).
The Chief Minister stated that the league's objective is to systematically identify and groom young talent, creating a "nursery" for future national and international cricketers.
Furthermore, Mann directed officials to organise similar district- and state-level leagues for other sports, including hockey, football, volleyball, and kabaddi. He asserted that the government would leave no stone unturned to enable Punjabi players to win medals at international platforms while restoring the state's glory in the field of sports.
