Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria started a four-day walking tour on Monday to combat drug abuse, beginning in Tarn Taran. This padyatra, his second major effort since last April, aims to engage the public in the fight against narcotics. The Governor plans to travel through the border districts of Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka.

The event began at Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School following the Governor’s visit to the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. During his prayers, he sought prosperity and welfare for the state. The first day saw a large turnout, including eminent local figures, NGOs, and students. Supported by the Punjab Red Cross Society, the initiative focuses on educating citizens about the dangers of drug use.

Kataria said that overcoming the drug crisis requires a combined strategy involving job creation, rehabilitation, awareness, and strict law enforcement. He described the march as a "people's movement," urging all political, religious, and social groups to collaborate. While visiting Seron village, he noted that cross-border smuggling of weapons and drugs from Pakistan remains a significant threat to regional stability. Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar joined the Governor during the proceedings.
