Punjab Govt Empowers Women Panchayat Leaders with National Exposure, Spiritual Pilgrimage

Historic Initiative: Women Sarpanch/Panch Delegation from Punjab Heads to Nanded Sahib for National Convention
Chandigarh: In a historic step to strengthen grassroots democracy and promote women empowerment, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann flagged off the first special train carrying 500 women Sarpanches and Panchs to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded in Maharashtra. The delegation will also participate in the National Convention of Women Panchayats.

Calling it a “red-letter day” for Punjab, the Chief Minister said that the women leaders chosen for this delegation represent high-performing Panchayats from across the state. He underlined that the visit will provide them a unique platform to exchange ideas and experiences with their counterparts from other states, which will ultimately help in ensuring the holistic development of Punjab’s villages.

Highlighting the role of Panchayats as the “Pillars of Democracy”, Mann said that schools, dispensaries, veterinary hospitals, and several village welfare initiatives function directly under their supervision. Strengthening these grassroots institutions through exposure and knowledge-sharing, he added, is key to transforming rural governance.

The Chief Minister also announced that the government has fully sponsored the boarding, lodging, and travel arrangements for the women Sarpanches and Panchs. He emphasized that the visit to Hazur Sahib holds deep significance as it coincides with the 350th martyrdom year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. “Many Punjabis dream of visiting Nanded Sahib at least once in their lifetime, and our women representatives will not only pay obeisance but also pray for peace, progress, and prosperity of Punjab,” Mann stated.

He further shared that two more such special trains will soon be sent to facilitate additional groups of women Panchayat leaders.
Calling the initiative a blend of spiritual fulfillment and leadership empowerment, the Chief Minister reiterated that this gesture is the government’s way of honoring women Sarpanchs and Panchs for their dedication in shaping rural Punjab.
