RG Kar Rape and Murder Case: SC Rejects of Victim's Parent's Plea Seeking Fresh CBI Probe latest news: In a major turn of events in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, the Supreme Court on Monday disposed of the petition by the victim's parents seeking a re-investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The horrific incident, which is about the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor inside the campus of the Kolkata-based medical college, has triggered public outrage across the country.

A bench presided over by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna held that petitioners, parents of the victim, are welcome to go in for their appeal for a retrial before the Calcutta High Court. The court steered clear of ordering any such direction for conducting a new CBI inquiry at this juncture, simply referring the matter to the state judiciary for proper consideration.

Senior Counsel Karuna Nundi was the representative of the victim's family and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represented the CBI, who put forward the agency's position in the case.
