Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse Accident Latest News Today: Excavators have started drilling with heavy machinery in order to fix a wide steel pipe to rescue over 40 Indian workers who are trapped inside a collapsed Himalayan highway tunnel in Uttarkashi. Notably, the tunnel was caved in two days ago in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand.

It is pertinent to mention that the 4.5km (2.7-mile) tunnel was caved in at around 5:30 am on Sunday. It was being built on a national highway as part of a route for the Hindu pilgrimage. 

In the meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he was closely monitoring the situation and even visited the spot. He also spoke to the family members of the people who are trapped inside. Dhami further said that food, water, and oxygen were being supplied to the people who had been trapped inside. 

Furthermore, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been closely monitoring the situation. On the other hand, the experts included in the committee, constituted by the Uttarakhand government under the chairmanship of the Director, Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Center to study and investigate the causes of landslide in Silkyara Tunnel, have inspected the site and started the investigation. 

Commandant SDRF-Uttarakhand, Manikant Mishra said that he had spoken to the workers who were trapped inside the tunnel and they had assured him that all 40 workers were doing well.  

Mishra also said that the trapped workers would be rescued soon while the essential food items and some medicines were supplied to the workers today.
