Two Men Arrested For Alleged Gang Rape Of Two Nine Year Old Girls In Outer Delhi’s Narela News

Two men, who allegedly gang raped two 9-year-old girls in outer Delhi’s Narela, have been arrested. 
The incident took place near an under-construction swimming pool on a private property, Times of India and Economic Times reported, citing police. The girls, according to the reports, come from economically disadvantaged families. 

The incident took place last week and was reported to authorities on August 8. 
The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar, 37, from Uttar Pradesh, and Munil Kumar, 2,4, from Bihar. Both worked as contractors and caretakers for the property. 
According to police, the girls, who are neighbors, were lured to an area near. After the assault, both reportedly threatened the girls. 

On August 8, the mother of one of the victims filed a complaint. Based on the complaint and the girls’ statements, a case was registered under sections 70(2) (gang rape), 127 (wrongful confinement), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. 

The swimming pool was not in use officially; however, it was often accessed by residents without formal permission. On the fateful day, the gate to the swimming pool was allegedly left open, and a group of girls entered on the same day. 
Police noted that the alleged offenders do not have a criminal history. 

According to Delhi police data, cited in the reports, a total of 932 cases of rape and Pocso offences were registered just in six months till June, this year.  Last year, during the same period, 1040 cases were reported.
