Young people taught the lesson of accountability

The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is an expression of the fact that in a democracy, there are limits to government stubbornness. The regime cannot continue to insist that what it has done or is doing is perfectly right. If he has made a big mistake or has violated the interests of a section of the population, he should also develop the courage to admit it. Such an acknowledgement should be in the form of accountability, not in the form of a lipa-poaché. The NEET exam paper leak and the subsequent CBSE Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has not shown a sense of accountability in the context of the discrepancies in the results of the Class 12 board exams. He chose the path of covering up the shortcomings of the government machinery. Nor did he sincerely try to know the side and perspective of the young satyagrahis who had been on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for a month. The government's job is to ensure electricity and water supply at the protest site.

The country and the world have seen how wrong this thinking was. The cancellation of the NEET paper has put the future of 22 lakh examinees at risk. Not only were there resentment among these examiners, but their parents and relatives were also unhappy with the government's attitude. The government's attitude towards the shock to such a large number of countrymen should have been sympathetic and responsible. On the contrary, the clerical lapses and attempts to restrict the entire phenomenon to the black deeds of a few unscrupulous people have raised questions about the sensitivity and sincerity of the country's educational pioneers and leading personalities in their duties. So, when the call for 'Sansad Chalo' came, youth volunteers from not only the National Capital Region but also from other parts of the country thronged all the roads leading to the Parliament House. Instead of opening the door to dialogue with them, the government adopted the traditional recipe of police brutality in front of them. The prescription was reversed. The Indian police know only the way to control the crowd with sticks and bullets. He took the same path. This repressive approach rapidly increased the moral and political encirclement of the Modi government, especially the ruling BJP and its allies. This is the third time in the last 12 years that the Modi government has been forced to bow down. First of all, he did the NRC. The National Register of Citizens (NRC) case and then the intensity of the farmers' agitation was justified. Mr. Pradhan's resignation is a bigger setback than the above two steps. That's because the CJP The movement was purely a people's movement. It had no organisational support from any quarter. The only resentment among the people was that the government was not sensitive to the educational future of the youth; It has to be taught a lesson of sensitivity. It was the spirit of teaching that instilled in the youth the courage to directly engage in government oppression. In such a situation, the opposition parties would have to board the cart of satyagrahis. Well, they have not been able to hijack the student movement, but they are taking political advantage of the whole situation by seeing the Modi government trapped. The only danger is that the present era of political manipulation may derail the government's process of reforming the national education system and examination systems. Overall, the way the Tanzia Manch (CJP) has brought the Modi government to its knees in just two months has also dented the Prime Minister's political image and made it clear to his party that the stubborn path of Modi cannot be the only path all the time. Humility and accountability should also be part of the government's nature instead of arrogance.
