The fact is that no political party is sincerely ready to give due recognition to a concept like 'women empowerment'.

The bill for reservation of one-third of seats for women in the central and state legislatures failed to secure a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha on Friday. After this failure, politics against it, and in favor of it, has completely exploded. The bill was defeated by the united opposition. It is natural for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to feel such a defeat. In fact, this is the first time since 2014 that the Modi government has not been able to do its will in the Lok Sabha. Therefore, the Congress and other opposition parties are trying to cover up this failure with metaphors like 'feticide' for its concrete efforts to 'empower women'. On the other hand, the opposition is basing its pure political maneuvering on slogans like 'victory of federalism and nationalism'. During the days of Sonia Gandhi's rise, Dr. Many so-called liberal scholars and semi-politicians associated with the National Advisory Council (NAC), which played a 'super government' role over Manmohan Singh's government, have also not refrained from calling the shots. They even go so far as to call the failure of the Women's Reservation Bill the beginning of the downfall of the Modi government and the BJP. It is also being suggested that if the Modi government brings the Women's Reservation Bill (which was named 'Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyam') separately from the bill on the new delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies and brings it afresh in Parliament, then it can be passed by the Lok Sabha without any hurdles.

All such moves are signs of political grandstanding and arrogance. The fact is that no political party is sincerely ready to give due recognition to a concept like 'women empowerment'. Reserving one-third or more seats for women is an easy promise for them in words, not in practice. This promise does not at all match our male-dominated national mentality. Therefore, some excuse is found to derail every effort to bring women on par with men. This excuse was provided by the Modi government through the new delimitation bill. However, this is the first time that the Modi government has tried to make a major parliamentary grandstanding without making proper introductions. Apart from a large section of BJP MPs, the NDA It is still unclear to other political parties within the party for what specific purpose or aspiration did the Modi government bring the 'Nari Shakti Vandana Act 2026' Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament through a special session. Then when it became clear on its first reading that this bill would not get a two-thirds majority, why was no defensive measure like agreeing to refer it to a select committee? Why did the government choose the path of direct defeat? It is also not clear why the government was in such a hurry that the bill was presented in Parliament without fulfilling the appropriate constitutional conditions? It is worth noting that the new bill was brought to amend the Women's Reservation Act 2023, which was passed by Parliament in 2023 (and approved by the President). Such an amendment is possible only when the original bill has been notified. The government had not even notified the 2023 bill! When this incompetence was exposed, the government quietly notified the 2023 bill on April 16 and made it an act. It is a testament to the incompetence of our MPs that instead of catching the cunning in the government's move, they kept trying to find a 'new conspiracy of the government' in it.

It is because of such 'incompetence' that Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav or West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been making statements that if Narendra Modi is sincerely interested in the upliftment of women power, then he should implement the 2023 Act immediately. They did not even consider it reasonable to know and understand that the 2023 Act includes a condition to implement it after the new census. Since this census has now started, it can be implemented only after its completion. The main reason for the Modi government not notifying this act was probably the above condition. Overall, what happened through the special session was not only a big setback for the Modi government, but also an incomplete victory for the opposition. The real blow came to the process of women empowerment. It has once again reached the cold shoulder.
