The migration of Indians to Russia is not correct.

The incident of the death of an Indian national and the injury of three other Indian nationals in a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow has drawn the attention of the countrymen to the plight of the Indian community living in Russia. The Indian Embassy in Moscow has released information about the treatment of the three injured Indians by Indian diplomatic officials, but it has not said what are the names of the deceased or injured and which Indian region they are from. The absence of such basic information creates a biased impression. Embassies should avoid creating such an impression. According to media reports, all four Indians lived in the same flat in a suburb of Moscow and this flat became the direct target of the drone attack. It is worth mentioning that on Sunday, Ukraine launched more than 600 drones towards different parts of Russia. Most of these were neutralized by Russian security forces, but about 70 drones managed to defeat Russian security forces and target civilian and military installations. According to Russian news agencies, more than a dozen buildings or business establishments were damaged by drones in the Moscow region alone. At least five people were killed and more than a dozen civilians were injured in these attacks. The Ukraine-Russia war is almost four years old. There are reports of about 24 Indians dying in it. Most of the dead were among those who were sent to Russia by Indian agents under false pretenses and were used as porters by Russian military authorities on the battlefield. After an outcry in India against these deaths, the Ministry of External Affairs intervened and stopped the misuse of Indian immigrants as military porters, but complaints of exploitation of Indian workers can still be seen on social media.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, there are currently 70,000 Indians in Russia, including daily wage workers, businessmen, shopkeepers, IT professionals and about 4,500 students. The students mainly study in medical colleges or technical universities. There is a huge shortage of workers in Russia. With the aim of meeting this shortage through legitimate means, an agreement was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India this year. Under this, 70,000 Indian skilled and unskilled workers were to be sent to Russia during the year 2026, but in view of the past bad experiences, the number of workers going to Russia has remained limited so far. Another reason for such a lukewarm response is the incidents of racial discrimination against Indians in Russia. Apart from this, Russia is also an expensive country in economic terms. Indians do not prefer to settle in that country due to the high prices of food items and housing rents and the relatively low wages.
However, what has happened in the Moscow region is unfortunate for Indian interests. The Indian embassy in Moscow has assured to repatriate the body of the deceased Indian as soon as possible, but due to the sluggishness of the Russian administrative structure, even routine procedures like post-mortem may be delayed for several days. In fact, Russia is by no means a 'Golden Land' for Indian workers. There is a lot of land there; wealth (wealth) is not present in that proportion. While the war being fought by that country has weakened Ukraine economically, financially, politically and socially, it has also severely damaged the Russian economy. This is the reason why Russians are preferring to settle in India, especially in Goa and other coastal districts of the southern states. The annual inflation rate in Russia is around 20 percent and the crime rate is not lower than the inflation rate. In such a situation, it is the duty of the Indian government not to encourage Indian citizens to migrate to such countries. The agreement regarding workers is going to suit Russia, but it is not in any way beneficial for Indians at the moment.
