Authorities reported that heavy rain is expected to persist through Tuesday.

The most powerful storm to strike mainland China this year, Typhoon Bavi, has forced the emergency evacuation of over 260,000 residents in the northeastern Liaoning province. As the cyclone tracks northward, it continues to unleash intense flooding and extreme downpours across the region, creating a dangerous and sustained flow of humid air into northern China.

Authorities reported that heavy rain is expected to persist through Tuesday. The severity of the situation became clear in Shenyang, the provincial capital, where a lighthouse was damaged, causing a high-voltage power line to sever and drift through rising floodwaters along main thoroughfares and beneath bridge structures.

In response to the escalating threat, regional officials have ordered all schools and training institutions to suspend classes immediately. Transport services across major northeastern cities, including Shenyang and Jilin, have faced widespread disruption, significantly impacting daily movement and logistical operations throughout the affected provinces.

Meteorologists attribute the storm’s unusual longevity to its well-preserved warm core, which has allowed it to retain vast quantities of moisture while moving toward the Korean peninsula. Formed in the Pacific Ocean 13 days ago, Bavi has maintained its structure since making landfall in eastern China, officially becoming the longest-lasting tropical cyclone in the Asia-Pacific region this year.

As the storm slows, disaster relief teams remain on high alert to manage the intense rainfall. The government continues to coordinate emergency efforts, prioritizing public safety as the nation contends with the aftermath of this historic climate event.
