Once a class 12th topper, Riya Kumari Thappa, hung herself to death in Dehradun
Uttarakhand: Yet another name has been added to the list of students who took their lives while preparing for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.
Riya Kumari Thapa, the resident of Dehradun and a daughter of a 1999 Kargil War veteran, was found dead in her room on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the incident came to light on Tuesday when Riya did not respond after her mother went to call her for lunch.
When she failed to open the door, her mother alerted her father. The family then forced open the room and found her hanging.
Thappa left behind a suicide note, I Love You, Mom and Dad.' She also mentioned in the note that nobody was to be blamed for her death.
Police said the contents of the note suggested that she had been struggling with feelings of inadequacy, and frustration over not achieving success in her studies appears to have been the main reason behind the extreme step.
Thappa had topped the Class 12th Exams with 97%, and was preparing for the NEET re-examination scheduled to be conducted on June 22.
