Departmental investigation leads to dismissal as police stress maintaining discipline and public trust in the force

A police constable serving in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district has been dismissed from service after participating in a CJP political protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The Uttarakhand Police announced that the dismissal took effect immediately following a departmental inquiry.

According to Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde, the action was initiated under the Uttarakhand Police Act, 2007. The inquiry found constable Sher Singh guilty of serious misconduct and violations of service rules, leading to his removal from the force.

The investigation, supported by official records, concluded that Singh had breached the Uttarakhand Government Servants' Conduct Rules. SP Konde said strict disciplinary measures were necessary to uphold discipline within the police department and maintain public trust in the force. He further emphasized that the Uttarakhand Police has a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, misconduct, and any breach of service regulations.

Sher Singh drew public attention after a video of him addressing the protest circulated widely on social media. During his speech, he announced his resignation and alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted in the state. He also claimed that question papers for the Uttarakhand Patwari recruitment exam were being sold illegally.

Police officials stated that Singh had already been suspended on July 20 and had been absent from duty without authorization since June 28. Authorities also revealed that Singh is an accused in a case registered in Haridwar last year, where he faces allegations related to land grabbing.
