What has particularly caught attention is the “Gudda-Guddi” reference associated with the post.
Chandigarh: A video shared by Rhythmjit Singh, the son of former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi, has become a talking point amid recent developments within the state Congress unit.
The social media post looks back at the period when Channi headed the Punjab government, highlighting decisions and initiatives taken during the Congress administration’s 111-day tenure. A song accompanies the video, which presents the government’s work and achievements from that period.
What has particularly caught attention is the “Gudda-Guddi” reference associated with the post. The phrase has an existing political context in Punjab Congress circles following comments made by former state party in-charge Bhupesh Baghel.
Baghel had used the reference in July while responding to questions surrounding speculation about a possible change in the Punjab Congress leadership. He had indicated that organisational decisions were not a “game of puppets or dolls” and would be taken following discussions with relevant stakeholders.
The comment subsequently featured in political exchanges as differences within the Punjab Congress came under greater scrutiny.
The latest post has appeared at another important moment for the party. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring recently resigned as Punjab Congress chief, with Pargat Singh subsequently taking over the state unit. Reports have previously pointed to differences between factions associated with Warring and Channi.
Rhythmjit’s video, however, does not directly target or name any Congress leader. Its primary focus remains the record of the government headed by his father and the decisions taken during its brief period in office.
Channi revisits brief tenure
Charanjit Singh Channi became Punjab chief minister in September 2021 after taking over from Amarinder Singh. His government remained in office for approximately 111 days before the Assembly election.
During that period, the administration announced several measures, including decisions linked to electricity charges and welfare initiatives. Channi has subsequently referred to these decisions while discussing his performance as chief minister.
The timing of Rhythmjit’s latest post has nevertheless led to political discussion, particularly because of the phrase associated with Baghel’s earlier remarks.
For now, the post itself offers a retrospective account of the Channi government, while its wider political significance is being assessed against the backdrop of the latest changes within the Punjab Congress.
