Under the new plan, the Rohini West metro station will be redesignated as Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station.
The Delhi government has officially approved the renaming of several metro stations and public landmarks to improve transit navigation and honor notable individuals. This initiative, sanctioned during a recent meeting of the State Naming Authority chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, focuses on providing clearer identities for critical city infrastructure, ensuring commuters can more easily identify their destinations across the capital.
Under the new plan, the Rohini West metro station will be redesignated as Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station. Additionally, the current Dwarka station is set to become Dwarka-Kakrola Metro Station, while the Rohini East station will be renamed simply as Rohini Metro Station. These changes were finalized by senior officials, including representatives from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority, to streamline daily travel.
Beyond transit hubs, the administration has approved renaming the Britannia Chowk in Shukurpur to Ashwini Chopra Minna Chowk. This package of changes also includes the naming of new civic projects, such as a sports complex in Rohini to be titled Atal Khel Parisar and a hospital in Jwalapuri to be called Baba Ramdevji Maharaj Hospital.
A significant addition to the local landscape includes a new sports complex in Begampur, which will honor the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Officials confirmed that a statue of the Bharat Ratna recipient will be installed at this site to commemorate his legacy.
According to the official statement, these decisions aim to protect Delhi’s historical and cultural identity while paying tribute to public figures who made substantial societal contributions. By refining these names, the government intends to foster a sense of heritage while ensuring that public infrastructure remains functional and easy to use for all residents and visitors navigating the city.
