Delhi metro shuts five stations over security scare, passengers seek alternate routes

DMRC shuts Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth stations ahead of CJP's march to Parliament.

Ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest march to Parliament, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) closed five stations due to security concerns, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded and forcing many to take longer routes to their destinations. This caused chaos at several metro stations in the nation's capital on Monday. Commuters were gathered close to the closed entry and exit gates at Rajiv Chowk, one of the busiest interchange stations in the capital.

At Patel Chowk station, security personnel used light force to remove those who were on their way to the CJP's protest site at Jantar Mantar. Outside the Janpath metro station, students, office-goers and other commuters gathered near the closed gates, waiting for updates from security personnel.

Due to security concerns, DMRC declared on X on Monday morning that the metro stations at Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth would be closed until further notice. The shutdown came amid heightened security precautions for the CJP's proposed march to Parliament. Numerous commuters were observed using navigation applications, phoning family members and coworkers, or asking metro employees and police officers for instructions.
While security remained tight across downtown Delhi, some chose to take buses, autorickshaws, and taxis, while others walked into adjacent operating stations.
