Uttarakhand has officially achieved a landmark milestone by becoming India’s sixth fully literate state. This significant accomplishment was realized under the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ‘ULLAS’ (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) initiative. State officials confirmed that the region successfully met all rigorous adult literacy standards set by the Union Ministry of Education.

Currently, the state boasts an impressive literacy rate exceeding 98 percent. This achievement highlights the region's commitment to prioritizing educational growth. By fulfilling the criteria established by the Department of School Education and Literacy, the state has set a new benchmark for others to follow.

The formal process reached its conclusion when the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh, granted official approval to declare the state fully literate. This decision followed the initial proposal, which received approval from the state cabinet on June 19, marking the culmination of extensive administrative efforts and strategic planning across the state.
