BJP Sweeps West Bengal, Vijay's TVK Shocks Tamil Nadu; NDA Retains Assam, UDF Wins Kerala

In Assam, the BJP-led NDA secured a third consecutive term.

The Assembly election results across five states have delivered significant political shifts, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a decisive mandate in West Bengal, while actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has retained power in Assam and Puducherry, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has come to power in Kerala.


In West Bengal, the BJP has won 206 seats in the 293-member Assembly, ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which secured 80 seats and was leading in one constituency, as per the report. Congress and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party secured two seats each, while the CPI(M) won one seat. Results were declared for 292 out of 293 constituencies.

In Tamil Nadu, TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, emerging as the largest party but falling short of the majority mark, resulting in a hung Assembly. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 59 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 47 seats. Among others, the PMK won 4 seats, Congress secured 5, while the BJP, DMDK and AMMK won one seat each. The CPI(M), VCK and IUML secured two seats each, according to the same report.


In Assam, the BJP-led NDA secured a third consecutive term, with the BJP winning 82 seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured 9 seats and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) won 10 seats. Congress secured 19 seats, while AIUDF and Raijor Dal won two seats each, and TMC secured one seat.


In Kerala, the Congress-led UDF registered a decisive victory, with Congress winning 63 seats and its ally IUML securing 22 seats. From the Left Democratic Front (LDF), CPI(M) won 26 seats, CPI secured 8, and RJD won one seat. The BJP also opened its account with three seats, according to the report.

In Puducherry, the NDA regained power with 18 seats in the 30-member Assembly. Among its constituents, the All India NR Congress won 12 seats, the BJP secured 4, while its allies won the remaining seats. Congress won one seat, and Independents secured three.
