54 relief camps operational across five districts, over 13,700 people under treatment

Flood-affected households received the first round of interim compensation from the Assam government on Monday, with each household receiving roughly Rs 75,000, according to officials. Even though the number of persons affected by the disastrous deluge in Upper Assam fell to 1.35 lakh, three additional deaths were confirmed on Sunday, bringing the total to 85.

The first batch of temporary aid from Dibrugarh was released by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is currently touring the most severely affected regions. Families with severely damaged houses in Sivasagar, Chariadeo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts will receive Rs 15,000 per household, among other benefits being provided for the affected people in the first tranche, with total relief amounting to Rs 75,000 per household, the officials said.

Sarma is scheduled to visit parts of Sivasagar district during the day and oversee the relief and rehabilitation operations, while also interacting with the affected people. The fresh fatalities in the deluge were reported in Sivasagar, one of the most-affected districts in the current wave of floods in the northeastern state.

A total of 1,36,200 people remained affected by floods in the Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar districts.
On Saturday, almost 1.8 lakh people were affected across five districts. Sivasagar remained the worst-hit with over 55,000 people affected.

The government was now providing treatment for 13,771 persons in five districts with a total of 54 relief camps and distribution centers. In the impacted districts, 15,422 hectares of farmland were still under water. The officials stated that near Numaligarh in the Golaghat district, the Dhansiri River was flowing above the danger threshold.
