The Indian Meteorological Department issued a flash flood warning for seven districts.

Moderate to heavy rainfall continued to batter parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering severe landslides and flash floods across the hill state. The Chamba district suffered extensive damage after massive landslides buried nearly a dozen vehicles and damaged several residential structures under debris.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the persistent downpours led to the closure of 108 roads across the state. Essential public utilities faced major disruptions, with 38 drinking water supply schemes and nine power transformers rendered non-operational.

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a flash flood warning for seven districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan. An Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall remains active through July 30 and August 3, warning of potential transport disruptions and localized flooding.

In Chamba’s Bhariyad village, swelling seasonal streams forced several families to evacuate their homes after floodwaters shifted direction. Meanwhile, state capital Shimla faces an imminent drinking water crisis following severe siltation at key supply sources and technical failures at the Giri water project.

Weather officials warned that fully saturated soil levels in low-lying areas heighten the risk of sudden landslips. Authorities have strongly advised locals and tourists to avoid approaching riverbeds and strictly monitor official weather advisories as monsoon activity intensifies.
