Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness another spell of intense monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for several districts in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather office has predicted light to moderate showers across much of the state, while districts including Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Chamba and Kullu are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall. Higher reaches of the state may also experience adverse weather conditions during the day.

Officials have warned that the ongoing wet spell could increase the likelihood of landslides, falling rocks, flash floods, overflowing rivers and streams, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Such conditions may also disrupt traffic and road connectivity in several hilly regions.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents and tourists to avoid visiting rivers, streams and other vulnerable locations during the period of heavy rainfall. People have also been advised to postpone non-essential travel and remain cautious while moving through landslide-prone stretches.

Special precautions have been recommended for motorists, with authorities asking commuters to check weather forecasts and road conditions before setting out. Drivers have been advised to remain alert, as slippery roads, poor visibility and debris from hill slopes could pose serious risks.

Meanwhile, the state administration has directed district authorities and disaster management teams to remain fully prepared to respond to any weather-related emergencies. Officials have been asked to closely monitor the situation and ensure prompt action wherever required.

The administration has also appealed to the public to follow only official weather updates, cooperate with local authorities and strictly adhere to safety advisories to minimise risks during the active monsoon phase.
