Officials have been directed to revise the examination framework accordingly.
Panchkula: Haryana has unveiled a series of measures aimed at integrating yoga into everyday life, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announcing that the practice will soon become a regular feature in schools, government recruitment examinations, and higher education institutions across the state.
Addressing participants during International Yoga Day celebrations, Saini said students from Classes 3 to 9 will study yoga as part of their academic curriculum beginning next session. The initiative is intended to encourage healthy lifestyles among children while promoting mental well-being and discipline from an early age.
In another key announcement, the Chief Minister stated that future recruitment examinations conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission and Haryana Public Service Commission will include mandatory questions related to yoga. Officials have been directed to revise the examination framework accordingly.
The government also plans to strengthen yoga training in educational institutions by equipping teachers and physical education instructors with specialized skills. According to Saini, the objective is to ensure that yoga becomes a sustained part of students' daily routines rather than an occasional activity.
As part of its broader wellness strategy, Haryana will establish a dedicated yoga and naturopathy institute in Morni, Panchkula district. The state also intends to incorporate yoga into the Centres of Excellence being developed at various universities.
Further emphasizing its commitment, the government has decided to rename sports departments in higher educational institutions as "Departments of Sports and Yoga." Yogasana will also receive recognition as a formal sporting discipline under the state's sports policy.
Calling yoga one of India's most valuable gifts to the world, Saini said the ancient practice offers benefits that extend beyond physical fitness, helping individuals achieve mental clarity, emotional balance, and a healthier way of life.
The announcements signal Haryana's growing focus on combining traditional wellness practices with modern education and governance, making yoga a central pillar of its public health and youth development agenda.
